What PrepKit is and how we work

What we do

We translate public preparedness guidance into an actionable checklist. You answer six questions about your household and you get what you need, how much of it, and what is missing today.

How we build the lists

Every item answers a specific requirement (drinking water, information, light, warmth, first aid) and the target duration of the scenario. Quantities are calculated per person per day, not rounded-up guesses.

• Base scenario: 72 hours of self-sufficiency at home.
• Water and food quantities derive from the number of people, pets and days.
• Conditional items (babies, pets, care needs, car) only appear if they apply to your household.

Which sources we use

We start from material published by official civil protection and public health bodies in each country: Protección Civil (Spain), Sécurité civile (France), ANEPC (Portugal), BBK (Germany), MSB (Sweden), Rijksoverheid (Netherlands) and EU civil protection, among others. Every guide links its source in the footer.

How we are funded

Some shopping links are Amazon affiliate links: if you buy through them, PrepKit may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what goes on the list — items come from the scenario requirements, not from whether they pay a commission.

When we update

We review guides and official links regularly; each guide shows its review date. If you spot a broken link or outdated advice, we appreciate the heads-up.

What PrepKit is not

We are not an official body or an emergency service. In a real emergency call your local emergency number (112 across the EU) and follow the instructions of your local authorities.
