Home kit and go bag serve different needs
Home supplies support sheltering in place. A go bag is for leaving quickly and must remain packed, portable and close to the exit.
Choose size and weight carefully
A 40–60 litre adult pack is a good starting point, but safe weight depends on fitness, age and route. Put dense objects close to the back and test the packed bag on a 20-minute walk.
- Give children only a light bag with water, clothing and contact details.
- Every person should have a flashlight, whistle and emergency blanket.
- Use waterproof pouches grouped by purpose.
Pack for the first 72 hours
Adjust the list to climate, destination and medical needs.
- Water, shelf-stable food and a manual opener.
- Medication, first aid, medical gloves and a health summary.
- Phone, cable, power bank, radio, flashlight and batteries.
- Documents, cash, keys, map and family plan.
- Dry layers, rain protection, hygiene and sturdy footwear.
Review and practise
Update sizes, prescriptions, contacts and seasonal clothing twice a year. Everyone who may carry the bag should know where it is and what it contains.
