Prepare before flooding
Monitor official weather and flood warnings. Move medicines, documents and hazardous products above expected water level, clear safe drainage and postpone unnecessary journeys.
Act without crossing water
Move to a higher floor when safe. Never go into a basement or underground garage to retrieve a vehicle. Floodwater can hide current, open covers, debris and electrical hazards.
- Turn around rather than entering a flooded road.
- Keep away from rivers, ravines and bridges.
- Call emergency services only for immediate danger.
Return carefully
Wait for official clearance. Avoid damaged structures, cables and contaminated water. Photograph damage from a safe place and follow drinking-water and food-safety notices.
