Pack a separate pet kit
Keep supplies together so any adult can collect them quickly. Adapt amounts to each animal's diet, size and veterinary needs.
- Several days of familiar food and water with portable bowls.
- Medication, prescriptions and veterinary contacts.
- Carrier, leash, harness and identification.
- Waste supplies, towel, blanket and a familiar comfort item.
Keep identification current
Update microchip and contact details. Store current photos, vaccination records and handling or medical notes in paper and digital form.
Plan a pet-friendly destination
Identify accommodation, friends or shelters that accept animals and keep a backup option. Never leave a pet behind when evacuating; frightened animals may behave unpredictably, so keep them secured during travel.
