How ES-Alert reaches phones without an app

ES-Alert broadcasts an official warning to compatible phones connected to mobile-network cells in a defined area. It does not need your phone number, registration or an app. The message identifies the hazard, affected area and action requested by the authority.

Check Android and iPhone settings

Menu names vary by device and software version. Search Settings for emergency alerts, wireless emergency alerts or government alerts, keep severe and extreme warnings enabled and install system updates.

• On Android, check Safety and emergency or Notifications.
• On iPhone, check the government-alert options at the bottom of Notifications.
• The phone must be on and connected to a compatible mobile network; airplane mode prevents reception.
• Use the manufacturer's support instructions if the menu differs.

What to do when an alert arrives

Stop somewhere safe and read the entire message before dismissing it. Check the area, hazard, time and whether officials require sheltering, evacuation or avoiding travel. Follow those current instructions even if they differ from your earlier plan.

• Tell nearby people who may not have received the alert or need help.
• Use dated official channels for updates and do not share old screenshots.
• Do not call 112 simply to ask whether the warning is genuine.
• If told to evacuate, take medication, documents and your go bag without delaying departure.

Keep more than one information channel

ES-Alert is a warning layer, not guaranteed coverage or a reply channel. A powered-off, disconnected or incompatible phone may miss it. Keep a battery radio, follow official sources and maintain household meeting points and an out-of-area contact.
